Sitting between Westport and Greymouth on New Zealand’s rugged West Coast, Punkaiki is a small village with big action!! The traditional drawcard to this area, the famous Pancake Rocks, are a unique limestone formation, with blowholes, surge pools and rocks that look just like a stack of pancakes! Just an easy 20 minute loop walk from the car park, this is suitable for young and old alike, with wheelchair accessibility too.

The newest of the Department of Conservation Great Walks, the Paparoa Track is a 55km multi-day experience that takes you over stunning alpine terrain and the Paparoa Ranges. It is suitable for both walkers, and bikers, but you’ll need to have s good level of fitness for this one as it can be challenging in poor weather. The Paparoa Track is best when started at the Smoke-ho Car park at Blackball, a 45-minute drive from Greymouth, and finishes off minutes away from a well-deserved hot meal at the Punakaiki Hotel and Garden Bar! Check the DoC website for more information on this incredible Kiwi experience.
